Riley Box
for FO Rep
Experienced. Member-Driven. Transparent.
I'm running for LEC 227 First Officer Representative because I believe our union is strongest when every Pilot has a voice, our direction is driven by the membership, and we stand together as one WestJet Pilot group.
Representation That Starts With the Pilots
The Pilots set the mandate. The representatives carry it forward.
Hello, I'm Riley Box. I'm running for FO Rep because effective representation begins with understanding what the Pilots flying the line actually want, rather than relying only on the handful of voices heard most often.
I want to build on this council's progress toward transparency by using structured, confidential polling and surveys. That gives every Pilot a meaningful way to shape our direction, including those who are not able to attend meetings, join online discussions, or speak up in the crew room.
When information can be shared, it should be. Pilots should know what priorities are being pursued on their behalf, understand the reasoning behind important decisions, and see the results of membership polling whenever appropriate.
No matter the path that brought each of us here, today we are all WestJet Pilots. We share the same Collective Agreement and the same future.
Five Years of Union Experience
Experience managing and accessing ALPA resources in both the United States and Canada.
Lead Negotiator
A full ALPA bargaining cycle, start to finish.
Member-Driven
Pilot input should establish our mandate. It's important to rely on data from Pilots, not assumptions about their priorities.
One Pilot Group
A unified Pilot voice: different histories, one direction.
My Priorities as FO Rep
My role as your FO Rep isn't to tell you what your priorities should be. It's to find out what they are, help build our mandate around them, and advocate for that mandate.
Every Pilot Has A Voice
Good representation starts with listening. I'll remain accessible across LEC 227, actively seeking input rather than simply waiting for Pilots to come to me. Structured polling and surveys can give every Pilot a meaningful way to help shape our direction.
Member-Driven Mandates
Our representatives should know where the membership stands before speaking on its behalf. I want to use structured, confidential polling to identify priorities, measure support, and help guide important decisions. Data doesn't replace leadership. It gives leadership a mandate.
Transparent Representation
You should know what your elected representatives are doing on your behalf and why. I'll communicate openly, share membership polling and supporting information whenever appropriate, and explain the reasoning behind the positions I take. When information can be shared, it should be.
One Pilot Group
Our different histories are part of who we are, but they shouldn't divide where we're going. Once we've heard from the membership and established our direction, our strength comes from standing behind it together.
My job as your representative isn't to tell you what your priorities should be. It's to find out what they are, carry that mandate forward, and keep you informed along the way.Riley Box
Proven Union Leadership
Five years of union leadership as MEC Chair, CA Rep, and lead negotiator, with experience navigating collective bargaining and an airline merger.
Before joining WestJet, I served as MEC Chair and CA Rep at Perimeter Aviation, where I was also the lead negotiator through a complete ALPA collective bargaining cycle from preparation and opening negotiations through to the final agreement.
A negotiation cycle is a marathon, not a sprint. It requires preparation, patience, communication, and the willingness to remain engaged when the process becomes difficult. I've experienced that firsthand.
I also represented Pilots through an airline merger. That experience gave me firsthand insight into the uncertainty, competing priorities, and practical challenges that arise when Pilot groups and operating cultures come together. It reinforced the importance of listening carefully, communicating openly, and keeping people focused on a shared future.
Through those roles, I learned how to work within ALPA's structure to move Pilot issues forward, from the LEC and MEC to the committees and processes that support negotiations, grievances, and arbitration.
I would bring proven union leadership, collective bargaining experience, and experience representing Pilots through significant organizational change to LEC 227.
5 Years · MEC Chair & CA Rep
Experience representing Pilots and leading an MEC through the realities of union leadership.
Lead Negotiator · ALPA Collective Agreement
Led the negotiating team through a complete collective bargaining cycle from preparation to final agreement.
Representing Pilots Through Change
Experience supporting and representing Pilots through an airline merger and the challenges of bringing different groups, histories, and priorities together.
Unity Is Our Strength
Every Pilot arrived at WestJet by a different path. Some were hired directly after flying for other airlines in Canada or around the world; others joined through the Swoop or Sunwing mergers or flowed from Encore. Those paths have given us different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We won't always agree—and that's okay.
Unity doesn't require every Pilot to have the same opinion. It requires us to listen to one another, determine where the membership stands, establish a common direction, and then stand behind it, together. That unity matters every day, but it will matter even more when we sit across the bargaining table.
Different histories. One Collective Agreement. One future. One WestJet Pilot group.
Why I'm Committed
Like so many of us, the reason I show up to work every day is my family.
The work we do through our union has a direct impact on the lives we build outside the flight deck. Our schedules determine how much time we spend at home. Our working conditions affect our quality of life. And our compensation determines how well we can provide for the people who depend on us.
That's a big part of why I'm committed to serving as your FO Rep. I want us to continue improving our careers, not just in what we earn, but in the quality of life this profession provides for our families.
We all have different priorities and different families waiting for us at home. But for many of us, they're the reason we put on the uniform and go to work in the first place.
A stronger future for WestJet Pilots should mean a stronger future for the families behind them.
